In the center of the shadow grove,
lies the stone of sacrifice.
The blood of the living is spread across the surface.
The smell of rotting corpses is spread across the air.

The spirit lays its host,
where thousands lay before.
The horrors approach from every direction.
They hunger for living flesh and blood.

The sacrificial stone,
surrounded by death and decay.

They rip and tear the tissue from the body
until nothing else is left but a lifeless pile of bones.
The blood is collected in a cauldron
where it will be used to summon forth the evil blackened soul.

The spirit lays its host,
where thousands lay before.
The horrors approach from every direction.
They hunger for living flesh and blood.

And it rises
as a spirit of darkness,
a harbinger of doom.

And it rises
as a horror of the night,
a champion of death.

And it will return
to the lands above
to reap mortal souls.

Majestic, intricate, and atmospheric melodic black metal. The melodies throughout this album are infectious. The vocals are quite varied (there is a wide array of harsh timbres, but there are also pleasing cleans); the guitar work is complex, layered and rich with innovative riffs; the bass sits in a good spot in the mix; the programmed drums are well done; and the keyboards add a mystical grandeur throughout this album. To me this duo powerfully express what black metal is all about: icy spite reserved for those who deserve it, carefully built atmospheres, and a raging rawness to the vocal delivery and drums. All three of their albums so far, though brief, pack a solid emotional punch and have an introspective dimension I deeply appreciate. Highly recommended. Dave Aftandilian
